All schedules must be made with the idea that they could be revised. A schedule must consider all classes, labs, lectures, social events, and other jobs in which you engage.
Learning to read program
For classes that require reading, such as foreign languages, make sure to schedule study time before class. Use the time to practice. Sometimes, practice with others can help sharpen your skills in a learning period before the class.
The Right Place To learn
You can learn anywhere. Obviously, some places are better than others is the library or a private room the best. Most importantly where you choose to study must not interfere.
Thinking skills
Every person has the ability to think, but use less effective. Effective thinking skills can not be learned, but must be built over a certain period. Good thinkers see possibilities where others see only dead-ends. If you are not a good thinker, start now by developing habits that make you ask yourself the question read. Talk with other students who you feel are good thinkers. Ask them what they do when they think critically or creatively. Often times, you can retrieve valuable information to help you become a better thinker.
Ask a Question
Ask questions to learn. Important things to learn are usually answers to questions. Questions should lead to an emphasis on what, why, how, when, who and where the content of the study. Ask a question yourself to read or study. When you answer them, you will help to understand and remember material more easily because the process will make an impression on you. The things that make impressions are more meaningful, and therefore more memorable. Do not be afraid to write your questions in the margins of textbooks, on lecture notes, or wherever it makes sense.
Reading
A primary means by which you get information is through reading. In college you are expected to read more than in high school. Do not assume just because you have "read" a task that is the end of it. You have to learn to read with purpose. In studying, you can read the same task three or four times, each time with different objectives. You should know before you begin reading what your purpose is, and reading. Reading is NOT running your eyes over a textbook. As you read, read actively. Read to answer the question you asked yourself or questions the instructor or author has asked. Always be alert to bold or italicized print. The authors intend that this material receive special emphasis. Also, when you read, be sure to read everything, including tables, graphs and illustrations. Often, tables, graphs and illustrations can convey an idea more powerful than the written text.
Say
As you read, you stop reading periodically to recall what you read. Try to recall main headings, important ideas of concepts presented in bold or italics, and what graphs, charts or illustrations indicate. Try to develop the overall concept of what you've read in your own words and thoughts. Try to connect the things that you just read for things that already know. When you do this regularly, then chances are you will remember more and can remember the material for papers, essays and objective tests.
Review
review is a survey of what has been closed. This is a review of what you should accomplish, not what you would do. Re-read is an important part of the examination process. Read back with the idea that you measure what you have gained from the process. During the inspection, this is a good time to go over the notes you have taken to help clarify points you may have missed or not understood. The best time to review is when you have just finished studying something. Do not wait until just before the examination to begin the examination process. Before inspection, perform the final review. If you manage your time, end review can be considered as "fine-tuning" your knowledge of the material.
